Q&A

A family of which the first child goes to a kindergarten and the twins go to a childcare center

Yu, the first child, goes to the kindergarten and Ra-yul and Ra-hee, the twins, go to the childcare center. Does this family need to have three cards issued?

You don’t need to keep a wallet full of cards. All you need is one card to cover for tuitions and childcare service fees for all your children.
Remember that you can use the same card for tuition certification and the subsidy for childcare service fees.

Ju-an who goes to a childcare center.
What are the qualifications necessary for receiving the subsidy for childcare
fees and tuition certification?

i-Happiness Card is a part of the government’s policy to ensure equal opportunities
of education for children aged between 0 and 5.
All parents who have children aged between 0 and 5 can have an i-Happiness Card
issued. However, card types (credit card, check card, card used exclusively for
i-Sarang service) and credit limits vary depending on the parents’ credit ratings.

When I have an i-Happiness card issued by a credit card company, can I receive a
subsidy for childcare service fees and certification for kindergarten tuition right away?

No. You need to apply for the government’s subsidy before having your i-Happiness card issued by a credit card company.
You can apply for the subsidy by visiting your local community service center or online (Bokjiro website (www.bokjiro.go.kr) and i-Sarang web portal (www.childcare.go.kr)).

The family of Ha-ru who goes to a kindergarten

Haru’s mom Gang Hye-jeong had an i-Fun Card issued last year. Does she need to have an i-Happiness Card issued again?

No, she doesn’t. It is not necessary to have a card reissued.
The current card can be used until expiration date.

Many children go back to childcare centers from kindergartens. Is there a separate procedure for tuition support application when moving from a kindergarten to a childcare center?

When changing from a childcare center to a kindergarten or vice versa, you must apply for a change in the qualification for tuition and childcare service fees in Bokjiro website or your local community service center. The subsidy is not provided until you complete the change application.
