Q
A 5 months old girl gets startled easily by a small sound during the day, and cannot have a deep sleep, to wake up often. Why is it?
A
If the baby cannot have deep sleep and at the same time have fever, decrease in the feeding amount after waking up, vomiting or diarrhea, then the baby may be ill, and you need to see a pediatrician. However, if these symptoms are not present and cannot sleep well, then see if the room temperature is high to cause sweating, or dry to cause stuffy nose. There are cases where the baby cannot sleep well because he/she is hungry if the baby was active during the day. If the baby is breast-fed, try to feed the baby for over 15 minutes at a time during the day, and to elongate the feeding interval to 4~5 hours.
