Labor Induction

Purpose and effects of labor induction

Labor induction is a procedure that artificially stimulates uterine contractions before spontaneous labor begins to bring on vaginal birth. Your doctor will insert a vaginal tablet or pill that contains a uterine contraction substance to soften the cervix, or give an IV injection of medication for uterine contraction to artificially induce labor.
Labor induction is performed in various cases, such as when a pregnancy significantly exceeds its due date, when amniotic fluid has decreased significantly, when the baby is not growing well in the uterus, or when pre-eclampsia or an amniotic fluid infection occurs.

Methods of inducing labor

If the cervix is hardened and not ready for labor, is the mother is admitted to the hospital the day before labor, and a vaginal tablet or pill is inserted to soften the cervix. When changes in the cervix occur, an IV injection of medication to artificially induce labor is administered.
Meanwhile, for mothers who are ready for labor with their cervix already softened, the IV injection of medication for labor induction may be administered intravenously without using any vaginal tablet or pill. Once labor is induced through the above process, the baby will be delivered in the same way as normal childbirth.
