Infertility treatments

Ovulation induction

Ovulation induction is a treatment method that enables pregnancy by administering ovulation-inducing drugs to infertile women who do not ovulate normally due to hormonal influences or ovarian abnormalities. Ovulation induction is generally performed on women diagnosed with anovulation or oligoovulation. For women with infertility due to unknown causes or those who fail to obtain high-quality eggs through general ovulation induction, attempting pregnancy through ovulation induction, however, can be quite meaningful. A typical ovulation induction procedure attempts to obtain 1-2 mature eggs close to a natural normal ovulation cycle.
The typical ovulation inducing drugs currently in use include oral medications, such as Clomiphene(Clomid), Letrozole, and ovulation-induction injections. Medical professionals will determine the appropriate type of drug, administration method, and dosage by comprehensively assessing the patient's condition, ovulation induction effect, and whether or not side effects occur.

Artificial insemination(intrauterine sperm injection; IUI)

This is a procedure in which the spouse's semen is collected at the time of the woman's ovulation, then specially processed to obtain only sperm with good motility, then injected into the uterus through a thin tube. This procedure is performed when at least one of the fallopian tubes through which the egg and sperm are fertilized is normal.
This treatment method is simple, inexpensive, and effective for patients with relatively mild infertility. However, it is less effective than in vitro fertilization(IVF) for patients with severe infertility, and it cannot be used with patients who have blocked fallopian tubes. The pregnancy rate per cycle with this treatment method is usually reported to be around 10-15%.

In vitro fertilization(IVF)

In vitro fertilization, also known as IVF, is a procedure in which eggs taken from a woman's body are fertilized with sperm to create fertilized eggs. The fertilized eggs are cultured to form an embryo, and then placed back into the woman's uterus to implant it, resulting in pregnancy. This is a method in which an egg and sperm are fertilized in a test tube rather than in the woman's body, and the fertilized egg is then implanted in the uterine lining. If there are any embryos left after the transfer, they can be frozen and used to try to become pregnant again in the future.
Although IVF has become relatively easy and affordable, it is still best to consider this procedure as a last resort when trying to overcome infertility. It is not advisable to choose IVF from the beginning if you are having trouble getting pregnant. In other words, if you are not an absolute candidate for IVF, it is best to try other methods(such as monitoring ovulation during natural cycles, using ovulation induction drugs, or IUI) and, if necessary, to first choose surgical treatment to remove the cause of infertility.

Controlled ovarian hyperstimulation (administering ovulation inducing drugs to retrieve eggs for fertilization and maturing multiple eggs)
Egg retrieval(If multiple eggs are confirmed to have matured, eggs are retrieved under light anesthesia)
Sperm retrieval and sperm preparation(collecting the husband's semen and selecting healthy sperm)
IVF(artificially fertilizing eggs and sperm outside the body)
Embryo transfer(fertilized eggs are cultured for several days, then healthy embryos are selected and placed inside the uterus through a thin tube)
