Childcare Information
It has recently become less frequent that we get to hear the wailing sound of a baby around us. The fact that the number of newborns is declining is enough of a concern, but what’s worse is that the ‘quality’ of newborns is deteriorating, too. This is attributed to a rise in old-age pregnancy but also a variety of delivery technologies used such as ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology), not natural pregnancy, resulting in an increase in the birth of twins and prematurely-born children as well as a constant drop in the newborns’ weight. This is a very serious matter that demands our attention.
Pregnancy must be well planned ahead. But people fail to realize the importance of pregnancy planning and this leads to a significant decrease in women’s ability to get pregnant the natural way – natural fertilization. Not many people are aware of the fact that only 30% of women become pregnant and deliver a child in the natural way. Repeated miscarriage is not uncommon, and what’s worse, quite a few women these days experience up to 3 consecutive natural miscarriages, which is called recurrent miscarriage (RM).
The problem is also found in men. Many men aren’t even aware of the concept of planned pregnancy. Futurologists affirm that the main cause of the eventual fall of the mankind will be a drop in the number of men’s sperms. In effect, the average number of men’s sperms worldwide in the 1940s came at 110 million per 1㎖. In the 1990s, however, the number averaged to about 60 million, which is only one half of the former figure. It took only 50 years to halve the number of sperms. Recent surveys also reveal that the sperm count of men residing in London halved again in just a decade. To make matters worse, the amount of semen is also on a downward spiral, which makes the futurologists’ claim sound more convincing. Scholars argue that the most crucial factor in these phenomena is the environmental factor. The same applies to Korea. The National Institute of Toxicological Research conducted a survey and the results indicated that the sperm mobility of Korean men in their 20s has already dropped by 50% since 2001, which is abnormally low.
It is true that men share the accountability for sterility with their spouses. Regardless, it is still common for only women to be held accountable for sterility in Korea. Male readers, even if you haven’t had any problems in the last two to three years, I strongly recommend you to take a health examination at least six months prior to your wife's pregnancy. Why? Your sperm that becomes fertilized today was made from a primordial germ cell three months ago, which means your health condition must have been more than fine at that point. To that end, your body should have been ready for providing sperms for pregnancy six months ago, which was three months earlier. But virtually no men try to understand this. It uncommon to find a husband who understands that he should take multi-vitamins when his wife starts taking it to get ready for pregnancy.
Another problem is that people in this day and age have no faith in their own bodies. They’re impatient. When they fail to get pregnant, they find it weird and go see a doctor only after a few months. When they do, doctors would suggest more examinations, medications and injections while oriental herb doctors would prescribe restorative concoctions. But these prescriptions are also geared mostly toward women. In effect, a husband and wife share the cause of fertility on the same level. So if some medicines, prescriptions or restorative concoctions successfully treat fertility, they should be given to men, too.
The same applies to doctors. They seem to focus more on giving prescriptions or medications rather than working with natural methods to treat the symptom. Let me talk about “medication” here. You see, diseases don’t occur all of a sudden. A lifelong habit is usually the ultimate cause of it while the intake of bad foods or dire environments can also be a cause. What you eat is more important than what medicine you take. You get to take medicines for a set period, but you eat food all throughout your life. But most people don’t pay much attention to what they eat and how they eat it. Doctors try to treat the symptoms with medicines, injections or operations in a short period of time without going over each patient's nutritional condition, habits, and exercise routine, which seems odd to me. You should always remember that natural methods are always better for you than artificial ways.
