What's Good about Breastfeeding

For Babies

Mother's milk is the most natural food for a baby. The breast milk is always at an ideal temperature. You don't need any preparation. It is always fresh, not contaminated, and has less possibility of causing intestinal abnormalities.

The mental bond between you and your baby fortifies. After birth, your baby faces bright and noisy surroundings. It is thus necessary to stabilize your baby from external stimulation. Holding your baby in your arms while suckling will make your baby emotionally stable. Therefore, it deepens trust and affection between you and your baby.

Risks for various infectious diseases decrease. Breast milk contains a number of substances that are beneficial to the immune system, such as antibodies, immune factors, enzymes, and leucocytes. Breastfed babies are less likely to experience tympanitis, vomit, diarrhea, pneumonia, urinary tract infection, meningtitis.

It helps your baby's intelligence development. The fatty acid contained in the breast milk plays a role in facilitating the development of a baby's intelligence. Regardless of a family's social and economic factors and the mother's intelligence, research shows that breastfed babies' cognitive ability is higher than that of bottle-fed babies.

For Mothers

The oxytocin released when feeding helps the uterus to contract, reducing postpartum bleeding and preventing the size of the uterus returning to the shape before delivery.

It helps you recuperate and lose weight. Breast feeding causes you to lose 1 to 2 pounds a month.

It decreases the secretion of stress hormones and strengthens your love for your baby while the hormones (prolactin, oxytocin) released from the breastfeeding offers you a sense of happiness.

With active breastfeeding, irregular periods will be stabilized while the starting of a period is postponed. As periods start later, you will lose less iron content after the delivery.

The likelihood of breast cancer or ovarian cancer for mothers who have experienced multiple deliveries and breastfed their baby is reduced.
